1 The jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of India is defined by the Constitution. 2 Article 138(1) of the Constitution explicitly states that the Supreme Court shall have such further jurisdiction and powers with respect to any of the matters in the Union List as Parliament may by law confer. 3 Therefore, the power to enlarge the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court regarding matters in the Union List of Legislative Powers rests exclusively with the Parliament. 4 Neither the President of India, the Chief Justice of India, nor the Union Ministry of Law has this power.
